About the author

Dave Shaw

Dave grew up on a dairy farm in the heart of Cheshire. Always a dreamer with his head in the clouds he became an avid reader of fantasy, sci fi and adventure stories at an early age. Aside from many, many hours spent working with animals, he also spent countless hours driving tractors. It was whilst driving up and down a field at 3mph that he let his mind wander and began crafting stories to while away the time.

After years of working on the farm, Dave decided to follow his passion and retrain in a profession that had always fascinated him, and so at the tender age of thirty, he headed to university to study archaeology.

After he graduated, he spent a few years splitting his time between driving tractors and working on various excavations, until he finally committed and became a full-time archaeologist. A profession that has enabled him to meet some fantastic people and work on some amazing sites such as Stonehenge.

Dave trained in Judo and Taekwondo, but it wasn’t until he discovered medieval combat that he really found the martial art that he had a passion for. Of all the weapons he likes to use, an axe remains his favourite.

His hobbies include not just medieval combat but also reading, gaming and restoring old machinery. He feels no shame in the fact that his love of tractors has never diminished.

Reviews

Definitely worth a read

“The author has an excellent ability to write. The descriptions of the landscapes are amazing and I could picture what places looked like. It is a long book and written in the first person. I enjoyed learning about the character and what his story was and even though it is fiction it felt like a real autobiography.”

A compelling story of revenge and redemption.

“In the only book to ever have made me cry (twice) I was introduced to characters I loved and rooted for start to finish. I can't wait to see what is next on Dave's writing desk.”

A fine war adventure

“This is a very smoothly written story following one young man, Danny, on his journey from layabout, to escapee, to saboteur, to head of a group of brigands, to leader of a partisan army. The progression feels very natural, as each development follows from one mission to the next.”
